Welcome to the Kaila Lab homepage

Enzymes are remarkable biocatalyst, responsible for all chemical transformations in living organism. The Kaila Lab, lead by Prof. Ville R. I. Kaila, is focused on understanding molecular principles of enzyme catalysis, with a special emphasis on how biological systems capture and store chemical and light energy and transduce this into other energy forms that the cell can use for energy-requiring processes. These processes are of key importance for understanding the molecular basis of cell respiration and photosynthesis, as well as  human disease. To obtain insight in the structure, function, and dynamics of these fascinating biomolecules, we  develop new methodology of computational biochemistry that we integrate with protein design and biophysical experiments. We are affiliated with Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Stockholm University with a subgroup at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München).

Our research is supported by the European Research Council (ERC), the Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) foundation, the Swedish Research Foundation (VR), and Cancerfonden. Follow us in Twitter.
